Why does my AEG Lavamat 16830 washer-dryer not start properly?

When you start the programme, the top Wash LED is red and the bottom Door LED is green, which is odd as the Door LED should be red during a wash programme. The water runs through the soap tray, and the timer goes from the start figure (62) down a couple of minutes as this happens (60), But just before the water pours in from the pipe in the tub, the machine resets itself back to the start of the wash programme, the timer shows 62 again, the Wash, Rinse, Spin and Door LEDs light up red and the wash programme stops. You can eventually get it to work by turning the dial to off and then starting again and it will work after a few attempts.
