Little Big Plant multiplayer?

Hey so I'm thinking about getting a PS3 and i <3 Little big planet!!! My cousin got me started on it.So i will always play multiplayer with her. But little big plant 2 is way more than the 1st!!! So she has the 2nd but I'm most likely to get the first> So my question is can you play with people on little big planet 2 when your on little big plant 1.
