Do the new LED aquarium lights grow plants as well as the compact fluorescents?

I have a Marineland double bright light that was just purchased and I have a coral life freshwater. I want to know if they will work equally as well at growing plants. I haven't tried the LEDs for this yet and I have a new tank set up.
